“Thanks for dinner, Phil” Sarah grinned.

“I’d never tried sushi before.” 

“And?”

“If I go running in the bathroom, you better hold back my hair.” Phil said calmly as he opened the door to a mattress store. “Mind if we stop here?”

“I like you.”

“And?”

“You’re not the usual guy that takes me out. You aren’t trying to impress me.”

“Should I be trying?”

“Well you do.” Phil sat on a mattress and looked right directly into her eyes. He did that a lot. Eye contact. “Impress me, I mean.” Sarah said.

“Sit on this.”

“Okay,” she giggled.

“Would you buy this?”

“It’s one of those memory-foam ones, right?”

“Yeah, astronauts use it or some bullshit.”

“I like a firm mattress, you know?”

“Me too, but I can’t help but imagine being sucked into one of these things. You know, like quicksand or the Sarlaac monster from Star Wars. Shit, I’d have nightmares every night.” Phil smirked.

“What happens if you weigh 500 pounds?? Would it fold around you like a taco?” 

“Come try this one!” Phil jumped like a track star onto the bed across from the one they were sitting on. She walked over and stood above him looking around, paranoid. 

“Can we really lay on these?”

“It’s only right that we try them out. Besides, if you and I are going to date I need to know your mattress preference.”

“Freak.” Sarah said as she lay down next to him on the mattress.

“Now, this is perfect.” Phil turned his head and they locked eyes.

“Could be,” said Sarah.

“So tell me about yourself.”

“Should we really have this conversation here? What if they kick us out?” 

“I guess we’ll have to talk until they do.” She felt Phil’s hand wrap around hers as he smiled. “Now about this Sarah character who likes me so much…”
